The University of Minnesota, Research Animal Resources (RAR) has an opening for a Veterinary Technician. This position reports to the Technical Services Director.
Major responsibilities include:
• Provide patient monitoring, care and treatment under direction of the area veterinarian and according to established Standards of care, including pain management, wound treatment, surgery prep, anesthesia induction, monitoring and recovery, medication administration, venipuncture, diagnostic lab sampling and processing, pharmacy inventory maintenance, emergency care and environmental enrichment.
• Provide training on routine animal care as well as specialized techniques. Prepare appropriate and legal medical records in accordance with GLP and other guidelines. Stay up to date on relevant rules and regulations pertaining to laboratory animal and general veterinary care.
Required Qualifications: Graduate of Animal Health Technician Program or equivalent training
Preferred: CVT, and one year relevant laboratory animal care and/or veterinary technical experience
Animal research at the University of Minnesota is conducted within the Health Sciences programs in the Academic Health Center, as well as in other programs. The primary focus of RAR is on service and administration of the animal care and use program at the University of Minnesota.
